Bhanu Kapil: Performances
Constituting the final in a series of five exhibitions organized by New York-based curator Harry Burke for The Printed Room since 2015, each of which survey different pressures put upon the conventions of print and literature following the digitization of everyday life, Bhanu Kapil: Performances will be British-Punjabi artist and poet Bhanu Kapil’s first institutional solo exhibition in Europe. A renowned writer who has lived in Colorado since 1998, beginning in 2001 Kapil has published five full-length books of poetry. Finding increasing recognition in literary circles for her fragmentary lyrics and sophisticated consideration of the inscription of language upon the body, Kapil’s work is rooted in an exploration of the role of the poet as a performer. Often centered upon migration, including intimate reflection on the experiences of herself and her family, Kapil’s poetic work is formally grounded it the experience of movement: it is fundamentally cross-disciplinary, and boldly traverses conventional rhythms.
