Bruce Conner: Light out of Darkness
Museum Tinguely presents “Bruce Conner: Light out of Darkness”, a solo exhibition showcasing Conner’s experimental films with a representative selection of nine works.
Bruce Conner (1933–2008) is considered the father of the video clip and one of the outstanding artists of the twentieth century.
Light out of Darkness has the same name of a solo exhibition project created by the artist for the University Art Museum at Berkeley, California, in the 1980s but that never took place because of Conner’s compromise refusal with institutions, whose rules for artists he would not accept.
The title itself emphasizes the experimental character of the artist’s filmic output and the symbolic dualism of light and darkness also recalls the artist’s propensity to think in opposites.
