Caroline Mesquita: The Visitors
The solo show is the artists first institutional solo exhibition in Switzerland. Displayed are the artist’s new series of life-size metallic elements, which are rooted in her current research around time travel and neo-futurist architecture. Her sculptural practice intertwines the materiality of her altered, oxidized, and painted copper as well as brass sheets with theatrical playfulness. The metallic silhouettes she creates appear to form an environment of coated steel, enacting with each other and thereby forming certain scenarios.
The French artist started with her recent exhibition at Fondation Ricard (Paris), to which the show at SALTS is a follow-up of the larger narrative that unravels her sculptural stories. With the help of a new stop-motion photo animation she produced, Caroline Mesquite provides the fictional background to the scenarios and environments she creates, based on the history and architecture of SALTS.
The solo exhibition is curated by Elise Lammer.
