Claudia Roth: I’M WAITING TO BE SEEN
I’M WAITING TO BE SEEN focuses on the transitionary phase that artworks experience after leaving the studio but before entering the public eye. It addresses the temporary suspension of art within systems of storage, transport, and valuation, where pieces frequently remain unseen for extended durations. This condition directly applied to a significant portion of Claudia Roth’s paintings, which remained wrapped and stored away. Referencing Walter Benjamin’s ideas on how an object's presence is tied to its specific time and space, the presentation explores the instability that arises when art exists without public interaction or circulation.
Organised by ELEVEN TEN STUDIO, this exhibition serves as the first posthumous presentation of Roth's work. By taking place during Art Basel on the former premises of the Liste Art Fair, the project intentionally contrasts with the commercial drive and high visibility of the art week. Instead of promoting rapid transactions and constant exposure, it highlights the prolonged periods of neglect that the market routinely overlooks, shifting the focus toward the silent, institutional life of art outside formal display spaces.
