Congo visits Rhine

Museum der Kulturen Basel, Münsterplatz 20, 4051 Basel, Switzerland

The show presents works by the sculpturer Tsimba and photographer Baloji, both born in the Congo.

On display are large-scale sculptures by Freddy Tsimba made out of spoons, some of which are higher than two meters. The artist uses spoons as a symbol of the great hunger and poverty still existing today, as well the never ending longing for more. Other sculptures are for example made out of machetes, standing for the cruelty of today’s times.

Photographer Sammy Baloji is famous for his photos and video installations which provide a vivid view of his country and its history.
