Dilek Winchester: The Wound is Our Place
The first solo exhibition in Switzerland by Istanbul-based artist Dilek Winchester takes place at der TANK under the title “The Wound is Our Place”. In her artistic practice, Winchester utilises language as a primary medium, stripping it of fixed meanings to treat it as a fluid material. Through her installations, alphabets are repurposed as universal tools aimed at fostering a sense of collective togetherness, countering the trends of contemporary political rhetoric. These pieces establish expressive environments that encourage the formulation of new narratives, promoting a form of communication rooted in mutual respect and non-aggression. Consequently, language is presented as a site of optimism, functioning as an alternative to prevailing hostile discourses.
