Estampes d’amitié: de Picasso à Sabartés
2018 marked the fiftieth birthday of the death of Jaume Sabartés (Barcelona, June 10th, 1881 – Paris, February 13th, 1968). He was an ever present figure in Pablo Picasso’s life and co-founder of the Museu Picasso, Barcelona.
Sabartés and Picasso are born in the same year, in 1881, and met at Barcelona in 1899 whilst studying at La Llotja. Their friendship lasted until Jaume Sabartés death in 1968. Pablo Picasso painted the first portraits of Sabartès in 1900, these were the first of a long series. Jaume Sabartés wrote more than twenty texts on Picasso’s life and his creative process.
With Picasso’s artworks from the collection of Museu Picasso, Barcelona, Fernet-Branca Foundation presents Estampes d’amitié: de Picasso à Sabartés on the friendship between Jaume Sabartès and the master of Cubism, Picasso.
