Maja Rieder: «cartelli»

Cartelli is a solo exhibition by Maja Rieder presented at Tony Wuethrich Galerie, featuring her latest 2026 body of work, Schild. Rooted in a continuous dialogue between line and space, Rieder’s egg-tempera paintings on paper mounted on stretchers expand her minimalist vocabulary. Transitioning from her earlier figurative explorations inspired by late-Gothic master Carlo Crivelli, these new pieces embrace diamonds and hexagons. Through a meticulous process of layering vibrant, self-made pigments over a traditional chalk ground, Rieder creates mesmerizing 'optical flip' compositions. The resulting works brilliantly oscillate between graphic flatness and three-dimensional illusion.
