Marianne Büttike: Textures
At the heart of “Textures” lies a search for immediacy and presence—a form of analogue cartography that threads together the past, future, and present. The works span painterly, graphic, and handwritten manuscripts, developed in parallel with textile techniques such as weaving and embroidery. Büttiker weaves words into materials, transforming language into gesture and sign, and circling back to the mystery and sensuality of the illegible.
These pieces form an ode to ornament, poetry, and slowness—inviting viewers into a space where silence, touch, and attention to everyday materials take on renewed meaning. In dialogue with tradition and vision, “Textures” honours the quiet significance of manual labour, the aesthetics of the overlooked, and the enduring intimacy between word and image.
Marianne Büttiker’s practice has received numerous accolades, including awards, work and print stipends, and studio residencies. Her work has been exhibited widely in museums and galleries.
