Philipp Goldbach: Written Pieces (Schriftstücke)
Galerie Gisèle Linder presents Written Pieces (Schriftstücke) by German artist Philipp Goldbach (b. 1978).
Philipp Goldbach has been working inceasingly to his series “Micrographs”, at irregular intervals since 2005.
The project consists of handwritten copies of works in their original language. The artist uses a pencil to manually transfer, in a writing process that often lasts for months, the complete text with letters having a height of just a few millimetres; through the extreme reduction in size, Goldbach produces a form that, in contrast to the purpose of legibility, has a freely aesthetic form.
The uninterrupted flow of text repudiates paragraph breaks and other divisions. Like a monochromatic sea made up of tiny traces of graphite.
The exhibition’s title, “Schriftstücke” (Written Pieces), emphasises this physical reality of immaterial content and suggests a link with the art historical genre of the “sea piece”.
The exhibition features also, alongside the “Micrographs”, the photographic work “Image Cycle”: a monumental sculpture made of numbered archive boxes exposed to the seasons and weather, realized it the context of the project “Artist Meets Archive”.
The Chambre Jaune hosts small works by Kathrin Kunz.
