Sum: Basel’s Projectspaces

The presentation Give-aways and advertising material plays with the urgency of being present – an issue pressuring many exhibition spaces. Whether in public, in the media or in professional discourse: it is essential to be recognised, to be visible, to constantly communicate. What counts: the mass or the focus? When does context become an empty slogan? With whom do I advertise how and for what? What happens to an object of design, when it becomes an advertising medium?

Depot Basel was launched independently in 2011. Today, Matylda Krzykowski and Rebekka Kiesewetter co-direct the place for contemporary design – with frequent and temporary support of partners and helpers, designers and non-designers. Currently these are Nela Weber, Charlotte Van der Velde, Veronika Gombert, Eva Feldkamp, Laura Pregger and Simon Grossen.

For Depot Basel it is key to establish a theoretical and practice-based engagement with design, its presentation, its communication and promotion as a discipline of social relevance. Whether independently, in cooperation or as a commission: we don’t only want to show design, we want to develop it further.
