The Printed Room – Works off Paper
Organised for The Printed Room at SALTS, Works off Paper groups works that investigate how recent cultural shifts from print to digital media have resulted in expanded forms of literacy, whereby language, unbound from the printed page, functions as image, architecture and performance as much as text. The exhibition functions broadly between two historical moments: the intermedia experimentation of New York City in the 1970s and 1980s, and the publishing environs of the contemporary internet today. The exhibition features contributions by Penny Goring, Lorraine O’Grady, Lady Pink, Arleen Schloss and Martine Syms, with a performance on the opening night by SADAF, and a mixtape featuring audio poems commissioned from a number of contemporary artists and poets.
