“There is only one thing I fear in life, my friend: One day, the black will swallow the red.” Presentation of the collection

To coincide with the “Vija Celmins” exhibition, the Fondation Beyeler presents a collection display focused exclusively on painting. Individual rooms are dedicated to artists whose work has left a distinct mark on this classical medium—expanding its possibilities, offering new perspectives, or challenging its conventions. Among others, Pablo Picasso, Mark Rothko, Marlene Dumas, and Wilhelm Sasnal are each given their own room. The presentation also features large-format collaged works by US-American artist Mark Bradford, on loan from the Daros Collection.
