Walter Bodmer, Lenz Klotz – Lehrer, Schüler: Meisterschüler
At Carzaniga an exhibition on two artists, linked by the relationship of master, pupil: Walter Bodmer and Lenz Klotz.
Walter Bodmer, who received a classical education at the Basel School of Arts and Crafts, was appointed successor to his own teacher in 1939. He taught head, nude and anatomical drawing. He continued to be artistically very active. Lenz Klotz met Walter Bodmer for the first time in 1945 and attended Bodmer‘s classes at the Basel School of Arts and Crafts. Encouraged by the master, who immediately recognised his talent, encouraged and challenged him, the two artists began working together. The theme of both is the line: the dynamic power of a line, the play in the surface and with compression, with emptiness and in-between, with condensation, with emptiness and interstices.
