Agnieszka Polska: The Demon’s Brain
Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart, Invalidenstraße 50 – 51
The Demon’s Brain is the solo exhibition of the artist Agnieszka Polska, set up in the ambience of the Historic Hall of the Hamburger Bahnhof, Museum für Gegenwart.
Polska often works by combining animation and filmed sequences; for her latest work, she takes inspiration from an historical happening, namely the correspondence from the fifteenth century between Mikołaj Serafin, the official who governed the Polish salt mines, his workers, and a web of creditors and debtors, which recorded one of the earliest forms of capitalism within Polish feudal system. In the new new multi-channel and immersive video installation presented in the exhibition, she tells an imaginary story, directly linked with this historical occurrence.
