Andreas Greiner: Gasag Art Prize 2016

Berlinische Galerie, Alte Jakobstraße 124–128

The winner of the GASAG Kunstpreis for 2016 has been announced: this year’s jury has selected the artist Andreas Greiner, born in Aachen in 1979, who is based in Berlin. The prize initiated by GASAG will be awarded for the fourth time this coming year in partnership with the Berlinische Galerie. Every two years, the partners take this opportunity to honour outstanding work at the interface between art, science and technology. The previous winners were: Susanne Kriemann (2010), Tue Greenfort (2012) and Nik Nowak (2014).

Andreas Greiner will design an exhibition for the entrance hall of the Berlinische Galerie, due to be opened during Berlin Art Week 2016. The GASAG Kunstpreis funds both this presentation and a catalogue.

Andreas Greiner studied under Olafur Eliasson at his master class for Berlin University of the Arts, also graduating from its Institute for Spatial Experiments. The Jury was impressed by his independent stance, which poses questions about the individual and the species and challenges the anthropocentric vision of our Western culture. In his work he addresses phenomena of the natural sciences and humanities, medicine, anatomy and music. From microorganisms and fattened hens to biological processes, explosions and musical notation systems – the range of themes he covers is as broad as the creative media he deploys. Andreas Greiner uses them to describe the relationship of people in our industrial and media society to nature, art and themselves
