Bernd Koberling: Malerei 2003 – 2018
The exhibition celebrates the career of German painter Bernd Koberling, one of the most important of his generation and a reference model amongst his peers and younger artists. “Malerei 2003 – 2018” includes a selection of works which span the last 15 years of Koberling’s career and highlight his ability to constantly reinvent his artistic language.
On display, pieces from his ‘Plattenbilder’ (1999-2011) and ‘Ölbilder’ (since 2012) series. In Koberling’s research, reference to natural world is primary: is the Icelandic landscape, in particular, to exert a major influence on the artist, becoming one of the main subjects of his paintings. Since the 1960s, Koberling has travelled to the country every year for several months, recording the landscape in the series ‘Memories of Water’ (2008), part of the group of acrylic paintings ‘Plattenbilder’. From the 2012 on, Koberling has returned to oil technique, working on more complex compositions with more vivid colours.
The gallery will be closed for winterbreak from December 23, 2018 to January 3, 2019.
