Cargo of Dust and Ashes
August 2 2024 marks the 80th anniversary of the Roma Holocaust, a trauma that has recently gained recognition due to the efforts of Romani intellectuals since the 1960s. In memory of the 500,000 Roma and Sinti murdered in Nazi-occupied Europe, ERIAC presents the exhibition CARGO—of Dust and Ashes. The exhibition invites a collective reconstruction of history through the perspectives of young Romani artists. Featuring works by Charly Bechaimont, Anita Horváth, and Lila Loisse, the exhibition addresses the transmission of trauma across generations and explores how memory and identity are shaped by the past. It underscores the importance of preserving and re-narrating these histories to illuminate the ongoing impact of this legacy on Roma, Sinti, and Traveller communities.
