Christine Wang: Crypto Rich

The exhibition Crypto Rich collects works by the artist Christine Wang which all address jokes focused on the theme of cryptocurrencies field. Many of them are paintings which portray memes directly copied from social media, interacting with viewers with both an aggressive and compliant register, symbolised, respectively, by the ironic vein of the contents shown and the conventional form of the painting support. The paintings by Wang reframe the technologic contents in the art field, alienating them from the conventions and stereotypes of memes and immersing their subjects in the art system, in which themes such as conventional sexism and consumerism are examined and criticized.
