Idris Khan

In contrast with his photographic works in which the artist applies digital scanning and photo processing techniques, Idris Khan’s latest works are characterized by materially and constructively superimposing layers of text onto the same surface. Khan incorporates quotes from a wide range of authors including Agnes Martin, Roland Barthes, and Susan Sonntag, but also texts of his own. His sources reflect the artist’s interest in philosophy, religion, art history, and theory, as well as the importance of scripture in relation to cultural memory.
