James Turrell: Ganzfeld “Aural”
Jüdisches Museum, Lindenstraße 9-14
In a temporary structure in the garden of the Jüdisches Museum Berlin, the artist James Turrell presents his immersive installation Ganzfeld “Aural”, part of the Ganzfeld Pieces series.
In these pieces, the artist creates liminal environments using the element of light, which holds a strong symbolic meaning in Judaism, connecting beginning and end of creation. Visitors are immersed in an ambience made of pure shifting-color light, that hide any space reference before their eyes could adjust and begin to perceive details and changes. Turrell recreates a dream-like setting which require time to be fully experienced.
The installation is a gift to the museum by the collectors Dieter and Si Rosenkranz.
