The recent paintings and works on paper by Berlin-based artist Leiko Ikemura are concurrently presented in Niebuhrstraße. They depict ghost-like creatures – hybrid beings that float between worlds. These works build on the large-scale cosmic landscapes that Ikemura painted in recent years, from which an extensive selection can also be seen in Kunst Lager Haas located in Lise-Meitner-Straße. They reflect upon a confrontation with both traditional European and Japanese landscape painting, juxtaposed here with Ikemura’s newer large-scale sculptures of female figures.
