True Stories: A Show Related to an Era – The Eighties
True Stories. A Show Related to an Era – The Eighties collects works by diverse artists to highlight the historical significance of the late 20th Century both for politics and culture. The years 1968 and 1989 signified respectively the beginning and the end of the Cold War as well as the 60s, in the Western culture, coincided with the end of the Modern. All these events triggered artists’ reaction on both sides of the Atlantic: seen from today’s perspective, during this decade, the way art would function in society has changed largely.
The exhibition intends to present significant works and artists of that time and how they were shown in galleries between New York and Los Angeles on one side, as well as Cologne and Vienna on the other side, since the four cities experienced major changes during that period.
The show takes place both at Galerie Max Hetzler Goethestraße and at the temporary space at Kurfürstendamm 213.
