Alexandra Pirici: Rejoin

Alexandra Pirici weaves dance, sculpture, music, and speech into actions and performative environments that explore how bodies produce and transmit knowledge.

For ART CITY 2026, Pirici presents “Rejoin”, a new work created specifically for the Teatro Anatomico dell’Archiginnasio, historically the site of public dissections by the School of Medicine since the 17th century. Drawing on the mechanistic and disenchanted observation of matter characteristic of the modern scientific method, Pirici transforms autopsy into a process of “reconnection”—hence the title Rejoin—with the complex systems of which every body is part. Against the detachment and separation between human and nature, spirit and body—embodied in the distinction between the body-as-object of study and the anatomical theatre’s structure—the artist stages a metamorphic presence in constant reconfiguration.

The work is supported by Banca di Bologna and continues the research Pirici began in 2024 with Attune, a joint commission by Audemars Piguet and Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart, Berlin.
