Basquiat X Lee Jaffe
ONO Contemporary Art presents “Basquiat x Lee Jaffe”, a photographic exhibition tracing the early years of the career of one of the most important exponents of street art, Jean-Michel Basquiat through Pictures of Lee Jaffe versatile artist who has animated the New York culture 80s.
After finishing his schooling at the age of sixteen, Jaffe (1950, Bronx, NY) leaves New York for attending Penn State University, where he studied art history, philosophy, photography and sculpture. After he left Penn State in 1969 Jaffe moved to Rio de Janeiro and began working with Helio Oiticica and Miguel Rio Branco. Recitation also in the masterpiece of the series B movies Neville D’Almeida “Piranhas do Asphalts “starring Maria Gladys. Then make a documentary with legendary singer / accordionist Luis Gonzaga in his hometown Exu located in Pernambuco in the northeast of Brazil. Together with Brazilian artists he worked with, Jaffe was forced to leave Brazil for having created works deemed subversive by the military dictatorship in power.
