Chalisée Naamani: Wardrobe

The collaboration between Arte Fiera and Fondazione Furla continues with the live actions programme curated by Bruna Roccasalva, Artistic Director of the Foundation. Following interventions by Public Movement (2023), Daniela Ortiz (2024), and Adelaide Cioni (2025), the 2026 edition features Chalisée Naamani, presenting “Wardrobe”, a new work combining performance, sculpture, and installation.

Naamani’s practice is defined by a transversal approach blending painting, sculpture, fashion, and technology, exploring the construction of identity and the representation of the body in contemporary visual culture. Her works often use found materials and fabrics printed with images from a continuously evolving personal archive, taking the form of what she calls “vêtements-images”—garments conceived as paintings or sculptures, not meant to be worn.

“Wardrobe” (2026) is a site-specific project created for the Padiglione de l’Esprit Nouveau, combining an architectural intervention with a performative action in which the artist participates directly. Inspired by the building’s dual nature—as both a manifesto of modernist ideals and a prototype of Le Corbusier’s machine à habiter—Naamani transforms the pavilion into a large wardrobe, staging everyday life through the act of ironing.

The wardrobe here symbolizes not only clothing but also care, preservation, and storage. The title “Wardrobe” itself reflects this dual meaning: deriving from the French garde-robe, it evokes both “to guard” and “garment.” Through this intervention, Naamani explores the relationship between clothing, dwelling, and habit, showing how the body, its shelter, and the repetition of gestures shape our way of being.
