Flavio Favelli: Nuova Mixage Up
The Fondazione Federico Zeri presents “Nuova Mixage Up”, an installation by Flavio Favelli created for the reading room of the Biblioteca Zeri—a vast space originally used as the novices’ dormitory in the Renaissance Convento di Santa, now home to both the Fondazione Federico Zeri and the Department of Arts at the University of Bologna.
The exhibition is part of Art City Bologna 2025, organized in conjunction with Arte Fiera.
Set in a previously inaccessible space of remarkable historical and artistic value, the installation will, for the first time, welcome the international audience of Art City and Arte Fiera.
“Nuova Mixage Up” embodies the dynamic interplay between past and present. This visually striking installation consists of wooden shelves, similar to those housing books, yet filled with 216 liquor bottles of varying shapes and sizes, collected by the artist over the years. A perfect expression of Flavio Favelli’s artistic vision, the work reimagines everyday objects rich with memory, deconstructing and reassembling them to create new meaning.
Positioned atop the central library furniture, the backless shelves form a vast transparent partition, where glass bottles interact with the thousands of books lining the walls, creating an evocative visual dialogue. Without disrupting the room’s function, the installation seamlessly integrates art into the daily life of the Biblioteca Zeri, allowing students to continue using the space—a true synthesis of functionality and artistic expression.
