No, Neon, No Cry
The exhibition No, Neon, No Cry curated by Gino Gianuizzi, attempts a narrative of the complex, multifaceted, 'messy' history of the Neon gallery.
Founded in 1981, Neon has been a permanent laboratory, a community for artists, critics and curators, and a training ground for all the people who have worked there. Its archive shows more than three hundred exhibitions to its credit, to which numerous collateral activities, collaborations and external initiatives have been added over time. But how can we approach the magmatic activity of neon in order to tell its story through an exhibition, without limiting ourselves to a strictly documentary project or, on the contrary, attempting an impossible ‘best of’ the artists and works that have been hosted there?
Gino Gianuizzi‘s answer is to resort to the formula of the wunderkammer: the space of MAMbo’s Project Room is inhabited by works in proliferation, by a visual accumulation into which one can circumspectly move, trying to decipher the individual works and trace them back to the artists.
No, Neon, No Cry includes works by 52 artists, bearing witness to the wealth of relationships built up over time by Neon: Aurelio Andrighetto, Alessandra Andrini, Sergia Avveduti, Fabrizio Basso, Francesco Bernardi, Maurizio Bolognini, Ivo Bonacorsi, Anna Valeria Borsari, Domenica Bucalo, Angelo Candiano, Maurizio Cattelan, Silvia Cini, Gianluca Codeghini, Daniela Comani, Cuoghi Corsello, Maria Novella Del Signore, Nico Dockx, Drifters, Emilio Fantin, Francesco Gennari, Patrizia Giambi, Paolo Gonzato, Gian Paolo Guerini, Nazzareno Guglielmi, M+M, Mala Arti Visive, Eva Marisaldi, Maurizio Mercuri, Dörte Meyer, Giancarlo Norese, Giovanni Oberti, Marco Pace, Paolo Parisi, Chiara Pergola, Alessandro Pessoli, Gianni Pettena, Marta Pierobon, Leonardo Pivi, Premiata Ditta, Marco Samorè, Fabio Sandri, T-yong Chung, Alessandra Tesi, Diego Tonus, Tommaso Tozzi, Luca Trevisani, Massimo Uberti, Maurizio Vetrugno, Luca Vitone, Francesco Voltolina, Wolfgang Weileder, Alberto Zanazzo.
