Walead Beshty: Ritratti Industriali
"Ritratti Industriali" is a monographic exhibition of the American photographer Walead Beshty gathering together 364 portraits.
The pictures are divided into seven groups: artists, collectors, curators, gallerists, technicians, other professionals, directors and employees of museum institutions.
The photos portraits people that Walead Behst met in his working environment, while realising his arts or preparing the exhibitions. These images have been collected in the last 12 years with a small analog 36mm camera, mainly in black and white. Inspired by the work of August Sander in the early 20th Century, Behsty’s aim is not to express the nature of the people portrayed, but to represent them in their working environment, that is also that of the artist himself.
The title “Industrial Portraits” suggest that the entire series of work constitute a portrait of a specific industrial reality, the art industry itself, revealing the actors operating in this specific field, explains the curator Urs Stahel.
