Earthly Communities
From 22 June to 12 October 2025, Kunst Meran Merano Arte presents the collective exhibition project “Earthly Communities”, curated by Lucrezia Cippitelli and Simone Frangi. The show brings together works by AMAZON, Minia Biabiany, Marilyn Boror Bor, Carolina Caycedo, Ismael Condoii, Luigi Coppola, Etienne de France, Alexandra Gelis, Mazenett Quiroga, Laura Huertas Millán, Eliana Otta, Amanda Piña, Naomi Rincón-Gallardo, Sallisa Rosa and Samuel Sarmiento. Through visual, performative and film practices, the exhibition addresses ecological, economic and geopolitical issues, drawing connections between Europe and Abya Yala – Latin America interpreted in a decolonial perspective – while engaging with the South Tyrolean context.
The project forms the second chapter of the three-year curatorial programme “The Invention of Europe”, dedicated to critically investigating Europe as both an ideological and material construct, and its impact on other continental spaces. Inspired by Achille Mbembe’s essay Earthly Community, the exhibition reflects on colonial and ecological rifts provoked by European conquest. Including new works produced during the residency programme Resistenze Viventi, “Earthly Communities” highlights indigenous knowledge, resistance movements and alternative models of relating to land, suggesting new forms of co-existence between human and non-human worlds.
