Raúl de Nieves: Betwixt the Hands of Time

“Betwixt the Hands of Time” is the second solo exhibition by Raúl De Nieves at APALAZZOGALLERY.

The exhibition revolves around a key moment for the evolution of the artist’s creative practice, the transition from childhood to adulthood, through a series of fundamental issues, among the others, the celebration of motherhood and the connection to his cultural heritage. For Raúl De Nieves, the awareness of becoming an adult coincides with the willingness and commitment to respect the family traditions we have assimilated during our countless moments of learning and exchange.

The exhibition features the “celebratory skins”, wearable costumes that are almost figures that inhabit the gallery spaces as unknown and vaguely anthropomorphic creatures. Those costumes are conceived as symbols of transformation, having that magical power to transform us into someone else, to make us feel older and more mature.
