Mia Enell: Split
The Nino Mier Gallery presents e an exhibition of Mia Enell's paintings and drawings, which will be on display in Brussels from September 5 to October 28, 2023. Titled "Split," this marks the artist's debut solo exhibition with the gallery, showcasing her work from 2017 to 2022.
In her exhibited pieces, the artist Mia Enell crafts a visual language that draws inspiration from both iconic pop imagery found in comics and illustrations and the surrealistic exploration of the strange workings of the subconscious mind. Through clever wordplay, unexpected combinations, and imaginative distortions of everyday objects, the exhibition delves into the peculiar undercurrents of everyday human experiences. While Mia Enell‘s artistic practice encompasses photography, video, installation, and sculpture, her recent work is characterized by a minimalist form of surrealism. Each composition features a central object or figure, sometimes a hybrid of the two, suspended against a monochromatic background. Enell removes any surrounding context, presenting her subjects as if they were objects of study, inviting viewers to contemplate them without distractions.
Enell‘s drawings and paintings, like stray and often peculiar thoughts that drift through semi-consciousness, represent innovative explorations of language and the material world. Constrained by her chosen forms, Enell‘s subjects carry a delicate, understated energy that each viewer interprets in their own unique way.
