Basim Magdy: The Stars Were Aligned for a Century of New Beginnings
Egyptian artist Basim Magdy is having his first US museum exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, titled “The Stars Were Aligned for a Century of New Beginnings” featuring new works by the artist.
Basim practice displays a deep interest in the brightly colored technique on paper and canvas. The layers in his works on paper are made of spray paint, collaged elements, gouache, acrylics, and watercolors.
The artist begun his career as a painter, experimenting colorful drawings and paintings before exploring the field of photography and cinema. The artist visions look as photographic landscapes. Talking about his production the artist stated: “Maybe I’m more interested in issues that are not particularly pleasant, but I have to say that my favorite reaction to the work I make is when people look at it and smile or laugh.”
Basim was nominated seventh ‟Artist of the Year ” by Deutsche Bank’s in 2016.
