Photographic Geomancy
The “Photographic Geomancy” exhibition explores the connections between Chinese contemporary art, local geography, global ecological discourse, and artists’ field experiences. Featuring 22 artists using photography and video, it employs “geomancy” as a metaphor to address aesthetics, culture, ecology, and geopolitics in Chinese geography.
Divided into four sections, “Retracing Ancient Terrain” examines traditional Chinese aesthetics and geography, “Geological Perception” explores the relationship between geology, ecology, and humanity, “Infrastructure Archaeology” investigates the link between modernity and geopolitics, and “Poems of Phantom Lands” delves into human-nature connections and technology. The exhibition design guides viewers through the Chinese landscape, blending visual art, geography, and history, and includes artist screenings, academic roundtables, workshops, and public education programs.
