Cecilia Bjartmar Hylta and Samuel Hindolo: Did Habit leave?
“Did Habit leave?” is a duo exhibition by Cecilia Bjartmar Hylta and Samuel Hindolo that reflects on the limits of the optical field and the residues of public life. Both artists work with found material, scouring familiar images or objects for hidden meanings and pushing habitual associations into abstraction. Here, abstraction is not a fixed state but a process of becoming, a suspension that allows perception to be reconsidered.
Bjartmar Hylta structures the exhibition with a large-scale walkable platform connecting foyer and gallery. This monolithic walkway incorporates negative volumes—holes formed by inverted bollards once used to block circulation in cities. Revealing their raw interiors, the work opens latent peripheries, speaking of urban space as an archive partially withdrawn from view.
Hindolo’s paintings and collages pursue form and formlessness. Figures emerge yet are pushed into abstraction, muffled or turned away, inhabiting disembodied circuits. His pictorial planes veer between limitless expanses and layered repetitions that shadow their own presence. Painting, traditionally a window, here becomes both a threshold and a dead-end: a gaze lost in reflection.
Together, the works question not what we see but how we look, proposing vision as a roaming, lingering act that oscillates between form and absence. The exhibition thus generates a sense of suspense and latency, contours that are present yet never fully graspable.
