Günther Förg: A Fragile Beauty

The exhibition is the most comprehensive survey ever dedicated to the artist Günther Förg and the first one in an American museum in nearly three decades. “Günther Förg: A Fragile Beauty” gathers works from over 40 years of the German artist’s multidisciplinary practice, including works on paper, photography, sculpture, and rarely-exhibited late-career paintings. The selection follows the evolution of Förg’s pioneering cross-disciplinary research from 1973 to 2009, highlighting the recurrent themes which the artist returned to throughout his life. Topics such as interest in photography and architecture and revisitation of modernist formal motifs are the focus of the exhibition.

Organised in collaboration with the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, “Günther Förg: A Fragile Beauty” departs from the relations of the artist with both the museus, including major loans from private collections and notable German institutions.
