Marinella Senatore: There is so much we can learn from the sun
The Museum of Contemporary Art in Cavalese presents “There is so much we can learn from the sun”, a solo exhibition by Marinella Senatore, an Italian artist known internationally for her community-based practice and its poetic, narrative dimension. Curated by Elsa Barbieri, the project blurs the boundary between art and everyday life.
Barbieri notes: “In October, Senatore met a group of local residents of different ages. Through two workshops, they shared ideas and reflections on community, highlighting the transformative potential of art.” These encounters lead to a new nine-part collage placed at the centre of the exhibition.
Starting from this new work, created in a spirit of participation and empowerment, the show unfolds as a visual and relational experience centred on bodies — the artist’s, present in two self-portraits, and those of the viewers. Senatore says: “My role is to activate a mechanism within the artwork that generates transformative energy and reaches the viewer.”
The exhibition includes paintings from the series “Make it shine”, glass light sculptures from “I Contain Multitudes”, neon works — “Breathe, U Are Enough”, “Remember the First Time You Saw Your Name”, “We Rise by Lifting Others”, “Dance First Think Later” — and collages from “The School of Narrative Dance – Storyline”. The installation “Alliance des corps” opens onto the landscape of Cavalese, creating a space for meeting and exchange.
