Toutité Iliazd: The Study of Form
The exhibition, curated by Eva Brioschi and Julia Marchand, is the most extensive Italian retrospective dedicated to the work of Ilia Zdanevich, known as ILIAZD (Tbilisi 1894 – Paris 1975), poet, writer, designer, scholar and admirer of Byzantine and Georgian sacred architecture. A radical publisher and maître du livre d’artiste, Iliazd embraced a wide range of experimental creative approaches.
Beginning with his contribution to Marcel Duchamp’s Boîte-en-Valise series C (commissioned between 1954 and 1958), the exhibition follows the development of his artistic practice, culminating in his pioneering work in bookmaking. Iliazd conceived the book as an art object: a structure built on the dynamic interplay of text and image, an intellectual and spatial architecture in which system and form are inseparable.
