Don Gallery presents Ning Zuohong’s solo exhibition Ri Dai Ma, comprising several mixed media works that have been done recently. The titleRi Dai Ma (日 代马) is inspired from the artist’s characteristic expression. Here, he puts three Chinese words that contain multiple meanings together to make up a new yet bizarre code. It is like a secret signal, which connects and responds to the exhibited artworks so as to lead the audience into an imaginary space that is constructed by the artist. In the exhibition, a brand new series “The Light…” creates a distant visual perception and reveals a vague memory.
The ready-made images collected by the artist change from time to time through the mosaic glasses, abstracting the colour and shape into an entirely different but obscure appearance. For another series of installation “Do Not Move”, the artistically sculpted super-light clay covers the surfaces, making it colourful but worryingly fragile. While inside, the installations are fulfilled with common objects from the artist’s home and studio, as souvenirs of day to day life.
