FN Design presents the exhibition “Celestial Harmony“. The intent of the show is to add a twist to how Islamic art is perceived while maintaining its essence of harmony, rhythm and growth that is manifested by the traditional arts.
The world’s spiritual traditions are in agreement that what we see in the world rests on an unseen subtle harmonic order, similarly, the sub-grids and implicit orders of Islamic art are concealed by the completed designs. Through this hidden order and harmony, Islamic ornament seeks to transport the viewer from immersion in the mundane to serene contemplation. It can be thought of as visual music that supports the spiritual life of the people it surrounds.
In our time, Islamic art is being fashioned purely as reproductions of traditional elements of art that were used in the past. This show is a result of a rigorous process of exploring ways to bring back some of the traditional rudiments of Islamic art in a contemporary context by introducing modern production methods, materials and techniques. The pieces explore different fundamentals of Islamic art such as the depiction of floral patterns, the use of symmetry, geometry and Arabic calligraphy.
