Hayv Kahraman: Audible Inaudible
The Third Line presents “Audible Inaudible”, Hayv Kahraman’s fourth solo show in Dubai. Hayv returns with a new body of works on linen and wood through which she narrates the violence of sound and the trauma connected to her past, and those of many others, as an Iraqi immigrant.
Hayv Kahraman was born in Baghdad, Iraq 1981. She lives and works in Los Angeles, Ca and is a graduate of the Academy or art and design in Florence, Italy. The body as object and as subject has a central function within Hayv’s work. It is the means in which culturally dictated concepts of spatiality are produced.
Through an ontological investigation of the human figure the artist is able to generate an impetus leading to a reconstruction of binary understandings within contemporary thought. She uses a vocabulary of narrative and exploration to try to contest and renegotiate boundaries found in social and political space. Whether expressed figuratively in paintings or abstractly in installations the underlying thread is the attempt to decipher notions of space.
