Hrair Sarkissian: The Other Side of Silence
Sharjah Art Foundation presents the exhibition ‘The Other Side of Silence‘ by Syrian-Armenian artist Hrair Sarkissian: one of the leading conceptual photographers of our time.
The exhibition brings together the artist’s most significant works from the past 15 years, as well as two major new commissions, including ‘Deathscape’ (2021), the artist’s first sound installation.
Sarkissian has worked extensively with analogue photography, using a large format camera to produce life-size photographs. The artist combines photography, moving images, sculpture, sound, and installations, and creates meditative dreamscapes.
The audience is taken on a long journey through the sacred squares of Aleppo, Latakia, and Damascus, through the skies above Palmyra, and the snow-covered post-industrial landscapes of modern Armenia.
