Museum Collection: Modern and Contemporary Arab Art
The Sharjah Art Museum’s collection embodies the richness and diversity of modern and contemporary art produced in the Arab World during the past fifty years.
The originality and uniqueness of this collection is its display of internationally renowned artists together with a number of artists who remain to be discovered and acknowledged. This collection attests to a prolific artistic production throughout the Middle East presenting works spanning over a large geographic region including Syria, Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, Egypt, the Maghreb, the Arab Gulf, Sudan and Yemen. The selected works also reflect the multiplicity of styles, techniques, subjects and ways of expression used by Arab artists since the second half of the 20th century. The exhibition therefore serves as a testimony to the evolution of visual arts in the region. Thus, through this unique collection, the Sharjah Art Museum endeavors to build knowledge about the significant contribution of modern and contemporary Arab artists to the global art world.
