Personal Revolutions
Produced and curated by an all-female team, “Personal Revolutions” features works of Syrian women artists working across multiple generations, media and themes. Curated by Mouna Atassi, the show examines the lives and works of pioneering female artists in Syria within the context of both personal development as well as the wider backdrop of the intense social and political changes that have taken place across Syria, from the early 20th century to the present day. Working in painting and photography through to performance, installation and video art, these trailblazing women allow us to see through their eyes, as they parse through the most pressing issues of their time, whether via the more traditional subjects of house and home, or explorations of identity, political strife, the female body and taboo, displacement, and personal growth.
