Sadik Kwaish Alfraji: Once Upon A Time: Hadiqat Al Umma
Maraya Art Centre presents “Once Upon A Time: Hadiqat Al Umma”, a solo exhibition by the Iraqi artist Sadik Kwaish Alfraji, curated by Laura Metzler and Dr. Alexandra MacGilp. Born in Baghdad (Iraq) in 1960, Sadik Alfraji lives and works in Amersfoort (The Netherlands): his artistic production is marked by a deep exploration of what he describes as “the problem of existence” through drawings, paintings, video animations, art books, graphic art, and installation.
The show at Maraya Art Centre features a panoramic multi-media video installation, a black and white animation of more than 14.000 drawings displayed across 9 projectors projecting the viewer into the reminiscence of the artist’s childhood experience of Hadiqat Al Umma “Nation’s Park” in Baghdad: the heart of the community’s social activities, which Alfraji describes as “The gateway to realms of love, dreams and imagination that molded my childhood.”
The works featured in the show are commissioned by Barjeel Art Foundation, and the exhibition is supported by Ayyam Gallery.
