The Other Hundred Entrepreneurs in Dubai
In attendance, Chandran Nair, Founder and CEO of Global Institute for Tomorrow (GIFT)
Celebrating the second edition of The Other Hundred which focuses on the world’s everyday Entrepreneurs.
The project is conceived by Chandran Nair, Founder and CEO of the Global Institute For Tomorrow, an independent Hong Kong based think tank providing content-rich and intellectually challenging executive education from an Asian worldview.
Selected from the 100 photo-stories in the publication, this exhibition gives an overview of The Other Hundred – Entrepreneurs, an initiative aimed at questioning the long accepted idea of entrepreneurs as heroic individuals whose drive, ambition and desire to get rich raise them above others. Instead, this collection of images suggests we should look at the many forms of inventiveness and ingenuity that people from all cultures and walks of life bring to bear as they search for ways of supporting themselves, their families and their communities.
The publication, edited from more than 10,000 images submitted from nearly 150 countries, The Other Hundred – Entrepreneurs embodies the realization of how in the rarefied world of global business, notions of what makes a successful entrepreneur has lost almost all links with the ways in which a person sets about trying to improve their material well-being by starting a business. The aim of this exhibition and its accompanying book are to return the word “entrepreneur” to its roots by capturing a tiny part of the enormous variety of ways in which entrepreneurship manifests itself around the world. These pictures and stories are shown to illustrate that entrepreneurship is thriving across culture, classes and genders in everyday life and in the unlikeliest of places.
