Zahra Al-Ghamdi
Zahra Al Ghamdi grew up in the Southwestern region of Saudi Arabia surrounded by traditional domestic architecture. The culturally-rich background of her childhood played a key role in developing her artistic and conceptual direction. She can vividly remember the rooms in which she was surrounded by, which reflected histories of artistic styles in the culture more broadly. By creating an echo of the past, she brings this past into contact with the present, seeking to demonstrate changes of style and architecture from traditional techniques and materials to its necessary resources. She uses her memories of places that are related to her childhood; drawing on an idea of ‘embodied memory’ through particular gestures.
