Dominique White: Hydra Decapita
Galleria Veda hosts Domenique White solo exhibition: “Hydra Decapita“.
The exhibition is inspired by a series of unpublished writings by the artist herself, who takes her inspiration from the book “The Many-Headed Hydra” by Rediker and Linebaugh (2000). In this publication, the authors propose an alternative history of the 17th century, one that is made by the dismissed, such as pirates, runaway slaves and common people who fought against the consolidation of capitalism and colonialism. All those different identities in the book are merged in the metaphorical and mythological figure of the Hydra. White overturns this narrative by imagining the Hydra as a giant and seemingly immortal beast that is created from the union of capitalism, colonialism and anti-blackness.
