Giulia Cenci: The Hallow Men
Giulia Cenci’s “The Hollow Men”, curated by Arturo Galansino for the new Project Space at Palazzo Strozzi, is a site-specific installation that merges sculpture, drawing, and assemblage. Using industrial scraps, everyday objects, and reclaimed materials, Cenci constructs hybrid environments where human, animal, and mechanical forms intertwine. These figures inhabit a liminal world, suspended between decay and regeneration.
The exhibition takes its title from T. S. Eliot’s 1925 poem, evoking themes of fragility, inertia, and existential tension. Cenci’s “hollow men” become metaphors for a human condition caught between past and present, nature and artifice, action and paralysis. The Project Space offers a new platform for experimentation, and Cenci inaugurates it with a powerful reflection on our uncertain and ever-shifting reality.
