Reaching for the Stars. Da Maurizio Cattelan a Lynette Yiadom-Boakye

The exhibition is a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo. In fact, the project at Palazzo Strozzi was born out of the desire to create a platform for experimentation and participation in which the exhibition of works from the collection, new productions created for the exhibition, as well as a wide-ranging programme of activities and projects with the artists involved in talks and workshops, and numerous activities to involve the public are combined.

Between painting, sculpture, installation, photography, video and performance, the exhibition enhances the dialogue between Palazzo Strozzi and contemporary art, offering visitors a journey to discover the great stars of global art of recent decades. In fact, the exhibition proposes a journey through the works of artists who have marked the evolution of artistic practices between the end of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st century, in a path that tackles themes as diverse as the experimentation of artistic languages, figuration and abstraction, identity and the body from a social and political point of view, the role and image of women in today’s society, the reflection on contemporary history between collectivity and individuality, through references to historical events such as 11 September 2001 or the struggles for civil rights.
